LinkWater Projects is a Queensland Government-owned and incorporated company. It was established as a special purpose vehicle in January 2006 (under the Corporations Act 2001) for the design and construction of bulk water pipelines in South East Queensland (SEQ).
LinkWater Projects has successfully delivered four major water pipeline projects. Today, these pipelines form an integral part of the SEQ Water Grid, providing water security to Australia's fastest growing region. The pipelines are the:
Now, for the first time on a major scale, water can be moved and shared throughout SEQ. LinkWater Projects is currently concentrating all efforts on the delivery of a further two pipeline projects. These projects will ultimately deliver approximately 80km of additional water pipelines for SEQ. NPI - Stage 2 will be a 48km potable bulk water pipeline linking the end of NPI - Stage 1 to the Noosa water treatment plant near Cooroy. Following approval of the environmental impact statement by the federal government, construction commenced in February 2010. The Wyaralong and Karawatha Interconnector is currently under feasibility assessment and will add approximately 30km of pipe to the grid, providing water security to Logan and grid resilience for SEQ. LinkWater Projects is committed to delivering world-class assets that are fit for purpose, deliver value for money and leave an ongoing, positive legacy to the environment and community. Once constructed, the majority of the pipelines are handed over to the Queensland Bulk Water Transport Authority, trading as LinkWater, to operate and maintain. Throughout 2008-09, LinkWater assumed control of more than 530km of newly constructed and existing potable bulk water pipelines and associated works. LinkWater and LinkWater Projects are separate businesses but are governed by the same Board, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Executive Management team. |
